🎯 Why an internship?

From saved life → launched life

1Up LifeBridge saves lives. Interns International gives those lives a future.

Jaime was 14 when osteosarcoma took her right leg. GFL’s 1Up LifeBridge program funded her amputation, prosthetic, and rehab. Two years later she won three gold medals at the Philippine National Para Games (Nov 2024). She didn’t just survive — she came back swinging.

Now the University of Cebu Sports Development Office has offered her a one-year internship: sports development, para-athletic training, and advocacy for other young amputees. The placement is real. The salary is not — the university covers the role; GFL covers her living costs so she can actually take it.

I can’t believe how far I’ve come. — Jaime Kathryn Monterde

🏅 What she’s doing now

At the Sports Development Office, Jaime runs training sessions for incoming para-athletes, helps the coaching staff adapt drills for amputees, and shadows the sports psychology team. Outside the office, she coaches younger cancer survivors learning to walk on their first prosthetic — the same journey she finished two years ago.

She’s also the face of GFL’s outreach to families in Visayas hospitals whose kids have just been diagnosed. When a 12-year-old meets Jaime at a clinic, the conversation about losing a leg changes shape entirely.

💪 What your gift funds

Jaime’s internship is unpaid. Her family is in Cebu but she needs housing near campus, bus fare to training, and a kit for the sports equipment she works with. $5,000 covers all of it — for the full 12-month internship.

  • $150One month of Jaime’s stipend
  • $180One month of housing near U of Cebu
  • $40One month of bus fare to train for Paralympics
  • $300Athletic kit + prosthetic maintenance
⏰ Internship year funding closes Aug 31, 2026. The U of Cebu Sports Development Office holds the placement for Jaime until then — after that, the role opens to the next candidate and she loses the spot.

Helping Hands Ministry

Donations to Jaime’s internship are currently matched 2× by Helping Hands Ministry, the same faith-based partner that sourced her prosthetic through 1Up LifeBridge. Every dollar you give becomes two in Jaime’s living fund.

The match is capped at $1,800 for the internship year. That means the next ~$900 raised gets doubled automatically — closing her funding.
